![]() ![]() Controller and colour scheme remain very similar. ![]() Feels like a natural successor to the previous generation.Let’s break down exactly what makes this console so special, as well as improvements I’d still like to see. That said, 2022 was remarkably quiet for Xbox in terms of first-party games, and while upcoming titles like Bethesda’s space-based RPG, Starfield, should mean we spend plenty of time with an Xbox pad in our hands this year, it’s about time that Microsoft really started flexing its new-gen muscles. Microsoft has spent years trying to earn back the gaming identity it relinquished with the mediocre launch of Xbox One, and there’s no doubt that the newest generation of Xbox is a big improvement. It’s capable of obscenely fast loading times, crystal-clear performance and a level of fluidity I’ve never seen before. So, has it been successful in this mission so far? Is Microsoft’s gamble on Game Pass being the future of its software distribution strategy paying off? And has the console recovered from the lack of worthwhile exclusives in the early months of release? I’ve now spent around two and a half years with Microsoft’s flag-flying Xbox, and my opinion has never swayed on one thing: the Series X is a monster. If that wasn’t enough to tempt you, it also fully embraces the brand’s legacy through backwards compatibility. According to Microsoft, it’s the most powerful game console ever released and will act as a benchmark for new experiences. The Xbox Series X remains the direct rival to Sony’s PlayStation 5 and PS5 Slim, with the Series S pairing things back for a cheaper way into modern gaming. That’s the Xbox Series X, and here’s my full review two years on from release. Nevertheless, it offers up a powerful console as its flagship game experience regardless. The goal of Xbox is now to offer its games to as many users as possible, with Xbox Game Pass leading the charge. Microsoft was on the losing side in the previous generation and it decided to fight back by reimagining said fight altogether. ![]()
